A penthouse for weekends in the center of Barcelona
Acquired by a foreign couple who wanted to visit Barcelona on the weekend, this penthouse is located in the Plaza Catalunya has been refurbished with the comforts of a luxury hotel by the architects of YLAB.
With a prime location in one corner of the square, housing is a long facade whose plant, very close, focuses on the terrace. The aim of the architects was to convert a former office space in an apartment with all amenities and comforts of an upscale hotel.
The design, care and functional prioritizes large storage space, preferably closed, so that the apartment was easy to maintain, and in perfect condition. Also, the space is committed to a high degree of comfort, incorporating all types of automated, for security, audio, video or climate.
Being a small plant and elongated in the interior has been sought to replace him by movable partitions without limiting the functionality of different applications. The outer wall, floor and ceiling are painted ivory. In contrast to these elements, we have planned a single continuous piece of furniture in elm wood stained dark gray, which serves as the separator element of private areas.
On one side of the cabinet, and open onto the terrace, is located the large common area consisting of kitchen / dining and living area. On the other hand, the elm cabinet extends into the smaller adjacent spaces, such as the lobby and bathrooms, as encase.
This large longitudinal furniture, stained elm, runs the house from the kitchen to the master bedroom, on the one hand, and from the child’s bedroom to the master bathroom on the other. Serves as ordering the different areas, while the hides to achieve the desired order and simplicity.
Thus, a single cabinet hides the large kitchen appliances, small office and removable piano room, the hall closet, the audio and video of the room, the closets of the bedrooms and bathroom recessed television principal. To reinforce the sense of continuity, encase the hall and the master bath is made of the same elm dyeing, as an extension of the main cabinet.
