Atherton Residence by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects
Located south of the peninsula of San Francisco, this house was built because the old house built in 1950 was demolished because of structural problems, but was preserved vegetation and existing artificial pond.
Customers, outdoor enthusiasts, they wanted a house that had the greatest amount of space open to the landscape.
The project was made in four small buildings: the main house, studio, pool house and garage. All along the boundaries of the property and leaving into the pond, gardens and pool. Large sliding glass doors open directly onto the pool and terrace.
The structure of the main house has a stunning cover which allows to hide the solar panels and solar thermal (hot water), with heating, and despite the weather, no refrigeration, this is done passively aided by the eaves, shutters and windows that open.
