Can Framis Museum of the Fundació Vila Casas, a work study BAAS led by Jordi Badia, has awarded the City of Barcelona Design, Architecture and Urbanism for the best work done in the Catalan capital in 2009.
The award-winning building, created from the recovery of two of the old industrial buildings Framis Can factory complex is situated in the heart of the un, now 22 @ . This project has helped maintain one of the first factories were installed in the Barcelona neighborhood of Poble Nou and wants to be a memory of the old industrial base that occupied the current 22 @ home of new companies related to the field of new technologies, design and communication.
The jury, composed by Carme Pinos (chairman), Zaida Muxí, Daniel Giralt-Miracle, Oriol Pibernat and Monica Gili, decided unanimously to award the prize to this project for having “created an intimate public space in an urban context and changing dismembered , and its successful articulation between the old and new, without falling into clichés restoration. ”
The building wants to remember the old buildings that occupied that part of the city and contrasts with the technological aspect of the buildings that surround it. This project, which was also awarded the National Prize for Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat of Catalonia, proposing a new way of dealing with old industrial buildings blending the new with the old without sacrificing contemporary and taking advantage of all the great possibilities of expression the passage of time has given to the walls.
