The house was built in 1870 by the modernist architect Josep i Pujol Brull. Now the interior Agusti Costa has rehabilitated housing-workshop for an artist who has not hesitated to mix so uninhibited stays live with the work. Located on the top floor of an old apartment on Calle del Carme, in the Raval in Barcelona, the house was listed and was interested in antique charm from the beginning to the present owner: glass in the windows, carved stone railings, balconies forged, molded ceilings, carved wooden doors and hydraulic soil. Although the condition was catastrophic, the rehabilitation project seemed the dream of any interior.
After conditioning the floor with some basic repairs (structural cracks, beams in poor condition, moisture, and replaced broken pavement tiles, woodwork rotting or obsolete facilities), the interior Agustí Costa redistributed the space guided by the desire of the owner to allocate the spaces with more light to the areas of drawing and workshop. Thus, we defined two work areas, one on each facade, and was allocated the central part of the dwelling, dark kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bath. The reform project was to provide lighting and visual interaction space, and for this the owner was willing to take risks in the distribution.
The aesthetic criterion that has followed has been to present a lively dialogue between old and new. The furnishings of the kitchen and the workshop was tailored to make better use of residual spaces. In this furniture designed for the occasion, we have added some iconic pieces Saarinen, Jacobsen, Aalto and Le Corbusier. The result is a contemporary floor who live either in the new and old, life and work.
