National Museum of Contemporary Korean History – Gansam & Partners Architects
Despite its location on the axis running through the heart of Seoul, South Korea, the building of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has remained hidden to the general public behind the facade. Gwanghwamun historic axis that connects the City Hall, the Sungnyemun and Seoul Station, has recently received attention along with the Gwanghwamun Plaza as a place of communication and interaction among Koreans. This phenomenon carries a symbolic significance of the building of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, breaking the mold of an exclusive building. The ancient history of Korea and the country’s growth as a leader in the global culture are summarized in the phrase “Dynamic Korea.” The dynamic nature of culture, history and Korean citizenship becomes the creative force behind the design. The National Museum of Contemporary Korean History is a compilation of various historical events and experiences of Korean contemporary history, the movement of people in response to dynamic spatial experience of the museum will chronicle the birth of a new national landmark and a high value cultural.
