The Grand Théâtre d’Albi in southern France
The famous French architect submitted the design for the Grand Théâtre d’Albi, a new monumental building that aspires to become the new symbol of this city in southern France.
Situated on the outskirts of the historic center of Albi, the new Grand Théâtre act as axis remodeling in the area, not only from the urban point of view, but also expand the cultural offer of the neighborhood. It is expected that the building completed in 2013.
The theater will have an extremely simple geometry, and shall be constructed of concrete covered with brick, both internally and externally. This compact volume will be dressed with a copper-colored metallic leather wrap it as a backdrop, a clear lyrical evocation. The metal skin may change shape according to the event inside, but always leave a large street level arches to welcome visitors and spectators. This stainless steel mesh material, as well as aesthetic personality, will serve to protect the building from wind and rain.
The distribution is outlined in a simple and functional, looking for easy access to the backstage, the stage and back offices, and enabling a large glass facade to the square to welcome the foyer and access to the theater. The building will also have open space to passersby, like a hanging garden and a restaurant from which to observe the panoramic view of the town of Albi.
