Two houses almost twins, orthogonal design and painted bright red. A unique NRJA proposal for two families to enjoy lakeside cold landscape Langstini, in the district of Riga (Latvia). The architects NRJA, a young studio established in Riga, have created the 2 Sisters House from two large volumes partly on concrete pillars that create two separate external porches. The two houses separate but connected, they occupy a total of 335 m2 and are joined at the vertex. At the junction of the entrance has been provided and a small common area for two dwellings. On the upper floor and with similar but not identical distributions, have placed private placements of each of the families. The building is topped with large windows to enjoy the great views over the landscape, improved from the first floor.
Through the small gesture of turning one of the houses on the other, the two plants are located in an oblique way and all original breaks with the orthogonality of the two volumes. But his real personality is given by the red color that has been painted throughout the house 2 Sisters House. The contrast with the landscape gives a very special and certainly far from the aesthetic one expects to find in a house in the middle of a snowy forest.
NRJA is a law firm formed in 2005 by Uldis Luksevics, and today operates with 11 architects. Guided by the slogan “No Rules Just Architecture” (No Rules, Just Architecture) this is one of the most innovative firms in Latvia, not for nothing that the average age of employees is 25 years. And nominees have won several international awards and are currently working in over 15 different projects.
