Unique Residence Villa Vals in Switzerland

This unique design house, carved into the mountainside near the famous thermal baths in Vals Switzerland, has been designed for the greatest possible unspoiled alpine scenery.
Bjarne Mastenbroek of SEARCH and Christian Müller of CMA have designed a semi-underground house, with architectural complexity that entails, to preserve an environment of great natural beauty. Contrary to what may seem, the Swiss authorities has no opposition to its construction, since the project has been considered from the outset to be respectful of the landscape and the nearby hot springs. It has not mattered that the house was buried, or that his view is certainly risky for a small Alpine resort town, very sensitive to new construction.
The entrance to Villa Vals is located in an old barn that leads into the house through a tunnel. The layout has been designed from a large central courtyard, toward opening the glass facade that provides natural light indoors, plus spectacular views of the narrow valley and surrounding mountains.
The interior does not detract at all architectural creativity of the house. All spaces, perfectly manicured, have been complemented by the best furniture firms: Hella Jongerius parts, Moooi, Marcel Wanders or Vitra, provide the final finish to this stunning home.
